Dr. Ciphrah is a scholar, scientist, teacher, poet, and entrepreneur.
In her not so former life, she is a diva of the pageantry circuit; she is Ms. Palmetto Pride Plus America 2017.
Dr. Ciphrah is a STEM Education Enthusiast, and her scholarship supports culturally-sustaining STEM education pedagogy and practices.
Regina E. Ciphrah, PhD is a multidimensional woman in that she is a scholar, scientist, teacher, poet, and entrepreneur. An alumna of the University of South Carolina, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 2002, Master of Teaching degree in Secondary Science Education in 2003, and PhD in Integrative Biology in 2013. Her professional experiences as an educator span over seventeen years and include employment as a public school teacher, professional development facilitator, program and organizational evaluator, state education agency program coordinator, teacher education faculty member, and higher education administrator. Dr. Ciphrah is currently employed as the Principal Consultant for Verbalizing Visions, LLC where she leads the company's technical assistance activities in the areas of fostering traditional face-to-face and online learning communities, maximizing continuous improvement assessment strategies, facilitating professional learning & coaching, and enhancing STEM education capacity. Her scholarship in culturally-sustaining STEM pedagogy is fueled from her lived experiences as a Gullah woman born and raised in Georgetown, SC. She beheld as a child and continues to redress as a practitioner opportunities for reclamation of historical and current STEM enterprise participation of cultures and individuals who are not both White and male. Her platform as Ms. Palmetto Pride Plus America 2017 included a focus on STEM literacy as a matter of socioeconomic justice for underrepresented youth. Dr. Ciphrah serves her community as a member of the Board of Directors for The SPARK Institute, an organization with the mission to grow a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in underrepresented youth and to help prepare them as future leaders in STEM careers. Aside from practicing in an area she loves, Dr. Ciphrah finds additional balance and joy in life through loving relationships with her husband, f/phamily, and furbaby; gardening; preparing whole foods; performing poetry she writes; and playing card, board and party games.
